Did you use your privilege today?

June 8, 2010, California - State elections...

As I'm a 'voter by mail'. I had received all voting forms and information well ahead.. but it seems that too often there had been something more important to do than study and decide between all my candidates, which ones I wanted to carry the colors... I finally did it yesterday!

So today, I was ready to bring my ballot to my polling place located in one of the YMCA buildings. I walked there and with a big smile on my face and my ballot in my hand, I entered the room . I was received by 3 very nice people, who showed me a box where to slid my envelope in. As my voting ballot disappeared, I noticed that I was the only voter there... I asked how many people came since opening, their response was: "a couple of them once in a while"!..

I thought that this June election was quite important; especially after the display of gridlocks and late budget voting which cost so much to California... I wanted to tell them, even with my only little voice! I was quite disappointed and really kind of hopeless to witness the general apathy of the people. The French have a say for that: "The bad governments are elected by the good citizens who don't vote..." I learned that as a child in school in Paris...
Are we teaching civic responsibilities in school?
